
Terming the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as the bloodline of Bangladesh’s economy, speakers at recent webinar maintained SMEs can be the engine for economic growth and employment generation post the coronavirus crisis even as they added it all but depends on effective response by the Government.
Taking part in the webinar titled, ‘Covid-19 impact on the SMEs and SMPs: The Bangladesh Perspective’ and organised by the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh or ICMAB, the speakers said the SMEs need to be uplifted so that the sector can generate quality employment even as they added that the sector has been creating employment for 7.8 million people directly and providing livelihood for 31.2 million.
As per reports, Planning Minister MA Mannan was the chief guest of this international webinar while Past President of ICMAB and President of South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) AKM Delwer Hussain FCMA and President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Alan Johnson partook in the event as special guests.
