Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stressed on infrastructure development and construction to make the best of the trade deal (Preferential Trade Agreement or PTA) that Bangladesh has signed with Bhutan.
Media reports maintained this while underlining that apart from emphasis on infrastructure, the Bangladesh premier during her meeting with the Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering, recently, discussed areas of cooperation, especially trade and connectivity even as the two leaders also agreed to use waterways in Bangladesh, to expand trade.
Hasina’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim, reportedly, maintained this even as Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen — Bangladesh Foreign Minister, Bhutan’s Ambassador in Dhaka Rinchen Kuentsyl, Bangladesh Ambassador to Bhutan AKM Shahidul Karim, amongst others, reportedly attended the meeting between the two leaders — reportedly stated that the two Prime Ministers (Hasina and Tshering) also agreed to strengthen cooperation on railway, road and air connectivity even if they agreed to finalise the draft protocol of a transit deal and Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) to use inter-state waterways.
It may be mentioned here that it was in December last year that Bangladesh signed the PTA with Bhutan, which is, reportedly, the first PTA for Bangladesh.
