Pakistan, which imported 1.69 lakhs of cotton bales from US in the previous FY, expects to import over 3.35 lakh bales from the US in the current FY as the local demand of the country has surpassed production and the demand-supply gap has to be filled through imports.
The national cotton production reportedly stood at 12.8 million bales during the 2013-14 period against the target of 14.1 million bales, marking a decline of 9.2 per cent against the target and fall of two per cent over the last year’s production of 13 million bales.
Pakistan imports high-quality cotton from the US and other countries to meet requirements of its textile industry.
