A shipping business that operates the Chattogram-China maritime route began an operation on Monday involving the mooring of a Chinese goods-carrying vessel at Chittagong port.
The first ship on this route, the MV Kota Angun, was anchored at Chattogram Port jetty -13 this morning, according to Rajib Chowdhury, Assistant Terminal Manager (Control), Chittagong Port Authority. 552 containers were being transported by the ship from the Port of Ningbo-Zhushan, China.
A number of ships that are owned by different companies have joined the China-Chittagong Express (CCE) service, according to Rajib.
On 7th September, the MV Kota Angoon set sail from the Port of Ningbo-Zhushan, one of China’sbusiest seaports, and arrived in Chattogram after nine days of travel via Shanghai and Shekou.
It used to take a mother vessel carrying goods twenty to twenty-five days to travel from China to Chittagong Port, with stops made in Singapore, Malaysia, or Colombo along route.
Syed Mohammad Arif, head of the Shipping Agent Association, said that the new route will improve our trade with China.
He states that Bangladesh exports processed hair, hides, and jute yarn, and imports machinery and raw materials from China for the garment manufacturing and export sector.
Bangladesh imports a lot of items from China. He came to the conclusion that it might be quite profitable to operate a direct ship on the China-Chittagong route.
