
Month after month, Mexico continues to accelerate its purchases of Brazilian leather and, according to the latest report from the Brazilian Center for Tanning Industries (CICB), it remained in the ranking of the main global importers in January 2024, with triple-digit increases in all indicators.
A CICB document published this February details that in the first month of the year, Mexico imported 1,172,995 kilos of Brazilian leather and skins from Brazil, 460.8 per cent more than the total imported in January 2023.
By area, Mexico imported 734,150 square meters of leather and skins ‘Made in Brazil’, which represents an acceleration of 325.3 per cent compared to January of the previous year, when 172,605 square meters entered the country.
Finally, in the balance by value, the CICB reveals that Mexico invested US $ 6.9 million in skins and leather of Brazilian origin, a value 240.7 per cent higher than the total disbursed in January 2023, the date on which the Mexican market invested just over US $ 2 million.
With this increase, Mexico ranks fifth among buyers of Brazilian leather and skins worldwide and continues to be the largest importer of Brazilian leather throughout Latin America.
