As Bangladesh inches closer to LDC graduation, which will come with its own share of challenges for the country’s exports, trade agreements with other countries are becoming increasingly important to address the post-graduation fallouts.
And a free trade agreement (FTA) with Malaysia seems to be on the cards even as Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Haznah Md Hashim has underlined she was optimistic that Kuala Lumpur and Dhaka would soon sign an FTA to boost bilateral trade.
According to media reports, the Malaysian envoy came up with observations while addressing virtual dialogue titled ‘Bangladesh-Malaysia Relations: Prognosis for the Future’ recently, organised by the Cosmos Foundation.
“The negotiations for the proposed Malaysia-Bangladesh bilateral FTA have yet to begin… therefore hope the negotiations would start soonest for the good of our two brotherly countries,” reportedly, stated Haznah while adding her ultimate aim is to conclude a FTA between the two countries.
