Senior Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh is hopeful, Bangladesh’s transition to a developing nation in 2026 from the current status of least developed country (LDC), thanks to which it is enjoying several trade benefits, will not impact Bangladesh’s exports much.
This is as per media reports, which added the Senior Commerce Secretary had opined this since the local exporters are staging a strong performance in the US markets even in the face of a 15.62 per cent duty and they can do the same in the European Union (EU) after the LDC graduation even as he expressed hopes of a smooth transition.
The Senior Commerce Secretary reportedly made the observations while addressing a dialogue on ‘WTO-MC12 Outcomes: Next Steps for Bangladesh as a Graduating LDC’, organised jointly by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), in Dhaka.
