India’s prestigious fashion institute, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is looking to start a five-year integrated masters programme by the next academic year (2024-25). This will help retain masters students in India, who would otherwise look to study abroad.
Sudha Dhingra, Dean of Academics, NIFT Bengaluru, said that they got in-principle approval for the programme about two months ago and will start from the next academic year.
Initially the integrated master programme will start at a few campuses and details are being worked out.
With its 18 centres across India, NIFT already has various courses like six bachelor of design courses, one bachelor of fashion technology and three masters courses.
The integrated programme will involve a component in the last semester where someone from the industry will teach students.
It is worth mentioning here that few months ago Union Textiles minister Piyush Goyal also suggested NIFT Academic Council to consider new courses.
