The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Kumar Verma has said, subject to optimal utilisation of the multimodal transport connectivity, including waterways, coastal shipping, roads, highways, and railway, Bangladesh’s exports to India can witness an increase of around 300 per cent.
The Indian envoy reportedly maintained this at a seminar on ‘Multimodal Connectivity between India and Bangladesh’, held recently in Dhaka and organised by the Unnayan Shamannay at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro even as he opined better connectivity is central to improving the ease of doing business and ease of living.
Among the non-traditional markets, India is a very promising destination for shipment of ‘Made in Bangladesh’ apparel, which is on the rise lately even as both the neighbours will soon start negotiations for signing a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) to harness business potentials and for growing mutual benefits, opined the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh while adding CEPA will ensure a more robust economic linkage between the economies of Bangladesh and India and help enhance the trade and investment ties by creating a new institutional framework and new supply chain.
