Owing to coronavirus pandemic and being the most impacted country, USA fell by 37.82 per cent in its denim apparel import during the first half of 2020.
The country imported denim apparels worth US $ 1.08 billion in January to June ’20 period and saw some disruption in tally despite most of the countries declining significantly.
Bangladesh has surpassed Mexico to become the top denim apparel exporting country to USA, while Vietnam dethroned China to grab the 3rd spot – all thanks to marginal surge it registered this year in denim apparel shipment.
Apparel Resources had analysed the denim apparel export of both Bangladesh and Mexico to USA back in September 2018 and predicted there is a close contest between both the countries and Bangladesh has an edge over Mexico. Read that comparative analysis here:
Will Bangladesh beat Mexico in denim exports to USA
In H1 ’20, Bangladesh clocked US $ 190.14 million in its denim apparel exports to USA, falling 23 per cent from the same period of 2019. Mexico’s shipment valued at US $ 184.94 which is a steep decline of 54.90 per cent on Y-o-Y basis.
Vietnam noted 0.67 per cent growth in H1 ’20 over H1 ’19 and shipped US $ 143.57 million worth of denim apparels to USA. This value is around US $ 22.75 million more than the value clocked by China, which fell massively by 67.38 per cent and shipped US $ 120.87 million of denim apparels to USA.
One Asian country which kept its business ahead of all other countries in terms of percentage change is Cambodia, which clocked US $ 64 million in its denim apparel exports to USA, noting a whopping surge of 39.52 per cent on yearly basis.
The year, as of now, has not been good for India as well and the country tumbled by 33.18 per cent in its denim apparel shipment to USA during January to June ’20. The revenue it generated from denim shipment was US $ 13.61 million.
