Gorakhpur, one of the main districts of Uttar Pradesh, has urged the State Government to focus more on the city’s garment industry. In this regard, Chamber of Industries, Gorakhpur has given a memorandum to Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of the state.
Vishnu Prasad Ajitsaria, President and SK Agarwal, former president of Chamber, urged CM that Gorakhpur should be included as a garment manufacturing hub into One District One Product (ODOP) scheme of the state as the city has a good number of weavers who are producing around 2 lakh metre fabrics every day.
In the last decade, the city has developed many power looms, process houses and stitching units. As the city has enough skilled tailors and other basic facilities, it has full potential to develop into a good garment manufacturing hub.
“We are hopeful that our demands will be fulfilled as CM was positive in our meeting. If we get Government support, we can use the full capacity of local fabric manufacturing within Gorakhpur,” Vishnu Prasad Ajitsaria told Apparel Resources who is also Director of V N Dyers & Processors, Gorakhpur.
As far as land availability for new or organised units is concerned, the land is also available with the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) and the city is around 270 kilometres from Lucknow, capital of Uttar Pradesh and 360 kilometres away from Kanpur. As Kanpur is already an apparel manufacturing hub, Gorakhpur will not have issues for allied support.
Here it is important to note that Gorakhpur also has an airport and therefore connectivity is not a very big issue.
It is pertinent to mention here that the State Government is supporting the garment industry and is working on various fronts for the same.
