The breakout of COVID-19 pandemic, which has had a devasting effect on Bangladesh’s readymade garment sector, had an equally crippling impact on the packaging and garment accessories’ manufacturers as well.
However, of late, many of them are witnessing a business rebound, underlined recent media reports.
Speaking to the media, Manjure Khuda of KDS Accessories Limited, reportedly, maintained that their company produces different types of textile accessories and was hit hard but after the lockdown, business has increased while Company Secretary of Khan Brothers’ PP Woven Bag Industries Ltd., Tapan Kumar Sarker, on his part, reportedly, stated that the company was trying to make a turnaround now.
Our sales dropped sharply before the pandemic; now we are trying to turn around, reportedly, said Tapan Kumar even as Manjure Khuda of KDS Accessories, reportedly, said that after the lockdown, the company’s business has increased.
However, notwithstanding the positive business outlook, as shared by some packaging and accessories’ makers, President of Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGAPMEA), Md. Abdul Kader Khan, reportedly, maintained that the sector, on one hand, was bearing the brunt of the coronavirus pandemic, while on the other, it is also facing an unhealthy competition in the global market even as raw material import cost has increased by more than 30 per cent, and going on to add that business will recover only when normalcy returns globally.
