
In the current calendar year of 2023, Bangladesh has attracted foreign investments totalling US $ 900 million. This announcement was made by Mohsina Yasmin, the Acting Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), during a press conference hosted at a hotel in Dhaka recently.
The press conference was organised by the Foreign Investors Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) as part of the two-day Investment Expo-2023, which is scheduled to take place from 8th to 9th November, marking the occasion of FICCI’s 60th anniversary.
During her remarks, Mohsina Yasmin highlighted the longstanding collaboration between BIDA and FICCI to promote Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and enhance the investment environment in the country.
She expressed her delight in BIDA’s role as a strategic partner in this significant FICCI event.
Naser Ezaz Bijoy, the President of FICCI, shared that the Investment Expo will be hosted at the Radisson Blu Water Garden in celebration of the chamber’s six-decade journey.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the event as the chief guest.
Furthermore, BIDA, as a strategic partner, plays a key role in this event. Bijoy emphasised that the primary objective of this event is to showcase FICCI’s contributions to the nation’s economic development throughout its existence and to underline the transformative journey of the economy, supported by policies that ensure a favourable business environment.
Yasmin, the Executive Director of BIDA, noted the launch of a one-stop service to encourage investment and address business-related challenges. This service offers 90 different types of support, ultimately liberating traders from both harassment and excessive costs.
She reiterated BIDA’s ongoing partnership with FICCI in their joint efforts to boost FDI and improve the investment climate within the country, expressing their enthusiasm for their strategic involvement in FICCI’s significant event.
Meanwhile, in the fiscal year 2022-23 (FY ’23), the textile sector of Bangladesh recorded the highest FDI at US $ 1.229 billion, according to recent data released by the central bank, Bangladesh Bank.
