The current gas crisis in Bangladesh, which has hit hard the industries, especially the garment industry, considered the lifeline of Bangladesh’s economy, is due to the flawed Government policies.
This was claimed by the experts who held flawed energy policies, to a large extent, for the current problem even if the Government has, reportedly, put the crisis of gas supply mostly down to an increase in gas prices on the global market mainly caused by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
According to the reports, experts have maintained that while the Government has become dependent on the import of gas as primary fuel, which is not a tenable proposition, the state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company has been ignored or has been made largely inactive.
