Close on the heels of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) introducing an Electronic Delivery Order (EDO) system for the delivery of imported goods, the whole process has now become hassle-free and faster.
Media reports maintained this citing the port officials, according to whom, with the introduction of EDO system, a day’s work will now get done within 5 to 10 minutes.
“…although shipping lines issue 100 per cent EDO, the rate is slightly lower for freight forwarders. Gradually all delivery orders will come under EDO,” meanwhile, reportedly, said Secretary of CPA Omar Farooq.
It may be mentioned here six shipping companies namely Maersk Bangladesh Ltd., Continental Traders BD Ltd., Continental Traders, Ocean International Ltd., MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company Bangladesh Ltd. and APL Bangladesh (Pvt) Ltd., were initially tasked with issuing EDOs on a trial basis from last December last year even if the EDO system has now been made mandatory for all shipping companies from 1 April.
