Dr. Harrison Mwakyembe, the Minister for East African Cooperation reassured that the Dar es Salaam region is committed to optimally harnessing the potential in textile industries to reduce dependence on importation of second-hand clothes and shoes. “The council of ministers (for which Mwakyembe is the current chairman) is currently working out modalities to enhance implementation of the agreement by Heads of State to resuscitate textile sector industries,” Mwakyembe explained. Unequivocally, the Minister insisted that the implementation of the plan would cause no inconvenience to the population and socio-economic stability would be guaranteed, safeguarding the interests of second-hand importers as well.
