
The Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) have asked their members to keep their respective manufacturing units closed during the Government-imposed 14-day lockdown in view of the coronavirus pandemic in Bangladesh.
Media reports maintained this adding both the BKMEA and the BTMA have issued notices in this direction recently.
BTMA President Mohammad Ali Khokon, in the notice, reportedly, underlined that the responsibilities will lie on respective mills in case of disobedience of the restrictions while BKMEA’s notice, reportedly, maintained that the knitwear units were not out of the purview and they must remain closed even as BKMEA President AKM Salim Osman, reportedly, requested all 1,500 members of the BKMEA to conform to the Government’s directives while underlining that even if the 14-day lockdown will hamper export activities, they have to accept the losses for the greater good.
It may be mentioned here that Bangladesh Government has imposed a strict 14-day countrywide lockdown from 23 July on account of a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country recently.
