In a move aimed to tide over the current cargo congestion plaguing the port, authorities at Chittagong Port, Bangladesh’s premier sea port handling bulk of imports and export, have increased the wharf rent by four times.
According to a notification issued by the concerned Office of the Director (Traffic) of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), the new rates took effect on 24 July (Sunday).
Calling on all importers to take immediate delivery of the import consignments, the CPA notice maintained various imported bulk cargo stored inside and outside the sheds of the port for an inordinately long period of time are hampering the operational activities even as port authorities have expressed apprehensions the cargo congestion might tarnish the image of the port in the outside world.
