Electronic Delivery Order, which is interlinked with the terminal operating system for issuance of automated delivery orders by the freight forwarders or shipping agents against import consignments, has been introduced by the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA).
According to media reports, CPA on 1 December issued a notice in this regard urging six leading shipping agents to issue the Electronic Delivery Order on trial basis — APL Bangladesh (Pvt.) Ltd., Maersk Bangladesh Ltd., Continental Traders BD Ltd., Continental Traders, Ocean International Ltd., MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company Bangladesh Ltd., have primarily adopted the system to settle import consignments — from the same day even as the newly-introduced automate system will, reportedly, save time and reduce the cost of business by allowing importers to receive goods faster.
It may be mentioned here that currently the clearing and forwarding agents collect delivery orders physically from the offices of the freight forwarders or shipping agents on behalf of the importers so as to get delivery of imported consignments.
