
Chinese company Dongfang Knitting (BD) Co Ltd will invest US $ 27.8 million to set up a Sock manufacturing industry in the BEPZA Economic Zone (BEPZA EZ) located at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) in Mirsharai of Chattogram.
The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) inked a contract with the company on Tuesday in the presence of Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, according to a press release.
Ali Reza Mazid, Member (Investment Promotion) of BEPZA and Fang Zhendong, Managing Director of Dongfang Knitting (BD) Co Ltd signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations at BEPZA Complex in the city.
This foreign-owned company will annually produce 216 million pairs of socks for men, women and kids and create employment opportunities for 5,192 Bangladeshi nationals.
The Executive Chairman of BEPZA extended a warm welcome to Dongfang Knitting (BD) Co. Ltd., the organisation’s newest member, and expressed gratitude for their decision to invest in BEPZA EZ. He hoped that the company would move quickly to start building the plant and start producing goods for sale. He pledged to offer the company from BEPZA all kinds of support.
Among others, Member (Engineering) Mohammad Faruque Alam, Member (Finance) Md. Ashraful Kabir, Executive Director (Admin) ANM Foyzul Haque, Executive Director (Investment Promotion) Md. Tanvir Hossain, Project Director of BEPZA EZ Mohammad Anamul Haque and Executive Director (Public Relations) ASM Anwar Parvez along with representatives of the enterprise were present during the signing ceremony.
