Dealing with inconsistent gas supply since June last year, businesses in Bangladesh have called upon the Government to allow industries some breathing room by deferring the gas price hike to April from the upcoming February
This is as per media reports which added the businesses have also called for revising the tariffs in the meanwhile even as they desire to have a dynamic pricing for gas and a long-term energy plan.
Speaking to the media, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan reportedly said it was not logical to increase gas prices just after the electricity tariff hike even as he called for a revision of the recently hiked gas prices while the President of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Md Saiful Islam, on his part maintained the recent 179% tariff hike does not even guarantee interrupted gas supply to the industries.
The BGMEA President further reportedly said that instead of tariff adjustment to reduce energy subsidies, the Government should disconnect illegal connections and prioritise minimising system losses in gas supply.
