
Thanks to its ‘Biometric Identity and Worker Information Management System’, the apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has won the Digital Bangladesh Award 2021.
According to media reports, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, on behalf of the Prime Minister, handed over the award to Faruque Hassan, the BGMEA President, at an event in Dhaka recently.
The garment makers’ body, reportedly, developed the initiative of preparing a biometric database of garment workers in 2013 even if currently, this database is, reportedly, being used by about 2,500 member factories of the BGMEA for more than 4 million workers every day and, the ‘Biometric Identity and Worker Information Management System (Worker Database)’, reportedly, stores workers’ records, including information related to their identity and employment in the cloud server and local databases.
