Sk Bashir Uddin, Adviser to the interim government on the Ministry of Commerce, has called on Swedish entrepreneurs to boost their investments in Bangladesh, particularly in Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
During a meeting with Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Nicolas Weeks at the Bangladesh Secretariat, Bashir emphasised the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Sweden. He highlighted the potential for these ties to deepen through increased Swedish investment in the country’s SEZs.
Bashir pointed out that Bangladesh is currently experiencing a favorable environment for foreign investors, especially in the ready-made garments (RMG) sector, which is a significant part of the country’s economy. He noted that the recent student-led mass uprising has opened up new avenues for investment, making Bangladesh an attractive destination.
The adviser also mentioned the interim government’s establishment of various reform commissions, including the notable ‘Labor Reform Commission,’ aimed at improving working conditions and ensuring security for workers in the country.
Ambassador Weeks acknowledged the efforts of various Swedish organisations operating in Bangladesh and expressed a desire to expand relations in areas such as trade and commerce, including the thriving RMG industry.
The meeting underscored the mutual interest in enhancing bilateral trade and investment, paving the way for stronger economic ties between the two nations.
