
Bangladesh’s net export earnings from apparels fell by 3.89 per cent in the January-March period of the current financial year 2021-22.
Media reports maintained this adding due to a price hike of raw materials on the global market, net export earnings from apparel in third quarter fell to US $ 6.02 billion from US $ 6.26 billion in the October-December period quarter even as apparel exporters, reportedly, added prices of raw materials continued rising on the global market and at the same time the demand for apparel products was decreasing as inflation went up in countries all over the world due to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Meanwhile, as per data from Bangladesh Bank (BB), in the third quarter of FY22, the value addition in apparel products dropped to a record low of 52.24 per cent even as the apparel sector recorded the lowest value addition of 53.42 per cent in the first quarter of the current financial year 2021-22, while the value addition in the third quarter of FY 2020-21 was 57.61 per cent, the BB data showed.
