In the just-concluded fiscal year, which ended on 30 June, Bangladesh’s overall exports– for the first time ever– crossed the US $ 50 billion mark to settle at US $ 52.08 billion.
This is as per media reports which cited official figures in this regard while underlining the country’s exports comfortably overshoot the target of US $ 43.5 billion set for the fiscal year of 2021-22 even if according to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), in FY ‘22, receipts were up 34.38 per cent compared to a year ago, when exporters brought home US $ 38.76 billion.
Apparel, which accounts for about 85 per cent of the national earnings from international sources, was yet again the biggest contributor with EPB data underlining garment shipment clocking 35.47 per cent year-on-year growth in FY ‘22, netting US $ 42.61 billion, of which knitwear accounted for US $ 23.21 up 36.88 per cent while woven apparel shipment grew 33.82 per cent to US $ 19.39 billion.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, reportedly, termed the FY ‘22 export receipts as a landmark for Bangladesh.
