Bangladesh’s apparel shipments to one of its most promising non-traditional apparel export destination, Japan, have increased by 25.81 per cent year-on-year to US $ 217.53 million in July-August.
According to reports, which cited data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) compiled by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the receipts in these two months, the first two months of the previous fiscal year, were US $ 172.91 million.
It may be mentioned here, within Asia, Japan is the only country where Bangladesh’s apparel exports crossed the US $ 1-billion mark much earlier even if some other Asian countries that have been tagged promising, have not been able to live up to the expectations.
As per Statista (German market and consumer data provider), revenue in Japan’s apparel market is estimated to be US $ 75.91 billion in 2022.
