Sweater manufacturers in Bangladesh are witnessing a slowdown in terms of exports to Europe principally due to longer-than-usual dry spell in some European countries and increased inflation fuelled by the Russian-Ukraine war.
This has been claimed by media reports even as they maintained that as per a BBC report in late August, which cited report from the Global Drought Observatory, two-thirds of Europe were under some sort of drought warning, in what is likely the worst such event in 500 years even if owing to climate change, some parts of Europe, which is home to more than 60 per cent of garments exported from Bangladesh, are even witnessing up to 30 degrees Celsius of temperature even in September, which is unusual considering summer in Europe comes to an end after June.
Global retailers were making delays in taking the delivery of products for which orders were placed between December and March, citing piling up of unsold stocks, reportedly, claimed Managing Director of Rupa Group Shahidul Islam, a major sweater exporter even as Md Rezwan Selim, Managing Director of Softex Sweater, another sweater supplier, reportedly, confirmed receiving fewer orders from global buyers since November.
