At the certificate awarding ceremony of Skill for Employment Investment Program (SEIP), organised by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at its office, industry experts stressed on the need for creating a sufficient number of mid-level managers for domestic readymade garment sector to stop investing the country’s hard earned remittances which are being spent to hire foreign expats.
Experts also mentioned that the Government of Bangladesh is taking initiatives with country’s top universities to train around 2,000 graduates as middle-managers for different growing sectors, like RMG. They also stated that about 0.2 million mid-level foreign executives are working in the country’s RMG sector, costing approximately one-third of the Bangladesh’s total US $ 15 billon inward remittance every year.

At the event, 200 students received their certificate on completion of training, which was funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and supervised by Ministry of Finance (MoF), in various fields of RMG sector. In the last three years, ADB has given BDT 520 million for SEIP through which 43,800 students have been trained for knitwear industry.
Md. Siddiqur Rahman, President, BGMEA; Mohammed Nasir, Vice Chairman – Finance, BGMEA; and Prof. Dr. Nizamuddin, Vice Chancellor, Bangladesh University of Fashion Technology (BUFT) were also present at the ceremony.
