
Bangladesh has retained its position as the world’s second largest apparel exporter in 2024, according to the latest data from the World Trade Organization (WTO). The country exported garments valued at US $ 38.48 billion last year, representing a modest increase of 0.21% compared to 2023.
Despite the slight growth, Bangladesh’s share of the global apparel market decreased to 6.90% in 2024 from 7.38% in the previous year. The total global market for apparel exports stood at US $ 557.50 billion in 2024.
China continued to lead the global apparel export sector, accounting for 29.64% of the market with exports valued at US $ 165.24 billion, reflecting a 0.30% increase year-on-year. However, China’s market share declined from 31.64% in 2023.
Vietnam experienced notable growth, surpassing both China and Bangladesh, and securing the third position. Its apparel exports rose by 9.34% to US $ 33.94 billion, increasing its market share to 6.09% from 5.96% in 2023.
Other major exporters include Turkey, India, Cambodia, and Pakistan, which secured the fourth through seventh positions, respectively. Indonesia ranked eighth, while the USA held the ninth spot in global apparel exports in 2024.
The data highlights ongoing shifts in the global apparel industry, with Vietnam’s rapid growth and Bangladesh’s sustained position reflecting dynamic changes in the sector.
