Bangladesh continues to struggle with scarcity of gas and electric supply, which are having an adverse impact on the productivity of the industries in the country including the readymade garment sector. The garment makers have reportedly demanded more gas and electricity so as to help the export-oriented industries maintain the export growth.
Addressing a recent press meet, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan called upon the Government to address the current scenario when he maintained, “We urge the Government to supply more electricity and gas to industries, especially the export-oriented ones because foreign currency reserves will bounce back if exports grow.”
The BGMEA chair further reportedly underlined apparel manufacturing units in Bangladesh were running below the capacity because of power shortage, which has shot up production cost as well.
