
The baby garment market in Asia-Pacific is anticipated to maintain an upward consumption trend over the next ten years, driven by the growing demand for baby clothes and clothing accessories (knitted or crocheted).

For the twelfth consecutive year, the consumption of knitted or crocheted baby clothing and accessories increased in Asia-Pacific, rising 1.4% to 1.4 billion pieces in 2024. In 2024, the Asia-Pacific infant clothes market was valued at US $37.2 billion, the same amount as the previous year.
With 526 million items, or 38% of the total, China was the country that consumed the most infant clothes. Furthermore, China’s consumption of baby clothing doubled that of India, the country’s second-largest customer (214 million pieces). With 113 million units, Pakistan came in third place with an 8.3% share of total consumption. Japan (US $ 17.4 billion) was the market leader in terms of value alone. China (US $ 6.2 billion) came in second place in the ranking with India coming in third.
With 1.3 billion units, or almost 57% of the total, China produced the most amount of baby garments. Furthermore, China produced five times as many infant clothes as India, the second-largest producer (257 million units). With 144 million units, or 6.1% of the total production, Pakistan came in third place.
In 2024, 82% of all imports of knitted and crocheted baby clothing and accessories were from China (13 million pieces), Japan (6.8 million units), India (6.3 million units), Australia (6 million units), and Malaysia (5.3 million units). A minor share of total imports came from South Korea (1.9 million units) and New Zealand (1.1 million units).
With a combined 64% share of total imports, Japan (US $ 166 million), Australia (US $ 162 million), and South Korea (US $ 61 million) were the three markets in Asia-Pacific that imported baby garments in terms of value. With their combined 18% share, China, New Zealand, Malaysia, and India trailed slightly.
With 821 million units, or about 80% of all exports in 2024, China leads the export structure. Bangladesh (54 million units) and India (49 million units), which together accounted for 10% of all exports, came up far behind it. Vietnam (16 million units), Thailand (23 million units), Cambodia (22 million units), and Pakistan (31 million units) accounted for a small portion of overall exports.
Together, they accounted for 76% of all exports in 2024, with China (US $ 1.8 billion), Bangladesh (US $ 1.2 billion), and India (US $ 965 million) having the greatest export values.
