Imports and exports between Bangladesh and India via the Akhaura land port have been halted due to flooding. Senior Vice-President of the C&F Agents Association, Niser Uddin Bhuiyan, verified the situation to local media.
Over 1,000 families in Akhaura, Kasba, and Bijoynagar upazilas have been affected by the flood caused by severe rainfall and the onrush of water from upstream India. All Government primary schools in Akhaura upazila have been designated as refuge centres.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Gajala Parveen Ruhi reported that more areas were swamped on Thursday. Dry food is being supplied to flood victims, she noted.
