The power that is scheduled to be supplied to Bangladesh from the Adani Godda coal-fired power plant will be ‘very expensive’ which Bangladesh ‘simply can’t afford’.
This is as per report released by the US-based Institute of Energy and Economic Financial Analysis (IEEFA), which added the author of the report, Simon Nicholas had reportedly underlined that it had been known years ago that power from the plant fuelled by coal shipped from Adani’s Carmichael mine in Australia would be expensive.
He reportedly maintained the power from Godda to be exported to Bangladesh — as per Simon, the coal for the said plant is being imported from Carmichael and railed 700 km from port to the Godda power plant in Jharkhand in India and the full cost of which will be passed onto Bangladesh — reportedly would cost almost double the initial expectation, which would reportedly be around US $ 150/megawatt hour (MWh) or 15 US cents (equivalent to more than Taka 14) per unit (KWh).
