
‘East Africa Cotton, Textile and Apparel Initiative’ have been launched jointly by the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) and the USAID East Africa Trade and Investment Hub (Hub) to establish sustainable workforce development programmes and institutionalize environmental, social, labour and worker safety best practices in East Africa. Both the organizations inked a deal during a trade show in Las Vegas.
The Hub works to boost trade and investment with and within East Africa. The initiative would be beneficial for both US retailers and East African businesses.

It will also work with Governments and private sector organizations to initiate workforce development programmes aimed at equipping young East African men and women with the necessary technical and life skills to join the workforce in the apparel, footwear and travel goods industries.
