Welspun Living Ltd, a textile manufacturing company, has joined hands with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to launch a large-scale skilling scheme assisting operator-level roles in the textile industry. The programme will train and certify 1000 people in its pilot phase and will focus primarily on women from less-represented geographies like the North-Eastern states as well as Uttarakhand. The total investment for the programme is Rs. 4.25 crore (US $ 509 million).
The training will take place at Welspun’s sites in Anjar and Vapi, Gujarat. The training will include a mix of theoretical classroom learning and practical on-the-job training, around key technical areas like machine handling, production processes, quality control, safety, and soft skills.
Candidates completing the training would receive a joint certification from NSDC and Welspun Living, and a guaranteed job offer in the company’s textile operations.
This effort is part of a wider initiative to improve skill gaps in the sector and address workforce development in less-represented areas. NSDC’s role represents a national commitment to improving employability through formal training that supports skill development around industry demand.
