Welspun India, one of India’s top textile companies, is largely focused on the development of its staff as well as the society.
In its latest initiative, the company has come up with NEEV – ‘Encouraging Women Entrepreneurs’, an exhibition that’s a platform for aspiring women entrepreneurs amongst family members of Welspun employees.
The success of the exhibition, held in Mumbai, Vapi and Anjar, has given the company the confidence to make it a regular event.
The women-exclusive initiative aims to help them showcase their entrepreneurial skills and give them a platform to promote their business.
Under this initiative, every woman who is an immediate family member of a Welspun employee, can participate. The women need to be engaged in any business of their own – it can be of any scale, ranging from micro and home-based initiatives to start-ups.
There is no limit to the category of products too; from showcasing skills like embroidering or cooking to selling apparel or home décor, the women are free to choose what they want to showcase under NEEV.
Dipali Goenka, CEO & MD, Welspun India, interacted with the women at the exhibition and appreciated their efforts.
There was enthusiastic participation from the women, and the exhibition had a diverse mix on display ranging from home-based businesses showcasing the owner’s skills to a variety of start-ups.
The NEEV exhibition not only opened up exciting marketing opportunities for the participants, but also created tangible sales for them.
The company has more than 25,000 employees and the exhibitions are being planned around festive occasions in India. The event is an opportunity for an equal number of households to experience first-hand, the wide range of women-led businesses and the varied products that they offer, and it also serves as a one-stop shop for festival shopping.
“Inclusive growth has always been a core value at Welspun, and we are firmly committed to empowering women. Towards that, we have had initiatives such as SPUN, Welspun Super Women Program and Wel-Netrutva. NEEV, which means ‘foundation’, was born as an extension of this commitment to our values and in keeping with our belief of “One Welspun, One Family,” said the company.
The company is also planning another exhibition around Diwali where it expects increased participation from employees of Welspun as well as their families. “We are hoping that the festive season will help the participants take their sales and businesses further,” adds the spokesperson of the company.
