
The US was ranked among the top 10 nations in a recent survey that identified the garment markets with the largest percentage of sustainable fashion. With a $358.70 billion market capitalisation, the US is the largest apparel market, with slow fashion accounting for 10.873% of sales. As a result, the US was placed eighth.
Coming in first place was the United Arab Emirates, followed by Estonia, Finland, Japan, France, Canada, Australia, the US, India, and Latvia.
Public Desire looked at over 20 nations to determine who has the highest developed sustainable fashion industries. The study was carried out using parameters such as the size of each country’s garment market, the income generated by fast fashion and slow fashion in 2024, and the share of both categories in the total apparel market. The data was obtained from official publications released by a few of the countries, Statista, and IBIS World.
To measure the amount of public’s engagement with the two fashion industries, the researchers identified the top fast fashion brands in each country, by conducting a closer study into each fast fashion brand, and the number of searches on the web.
Shein was found to be the most searched fast fashion brands in all the countries analyzed. To measure the popularity of sustainable fashion, a separate search was done to find out how many times “thrift stores near me” were searched across all the countries analyzed.
