The collaborative global platform of the House Of Denim Foundation, Denim Deal, created to achieve a sustainable future in denim, recently announced the news of its newest member – the textile manufacturing company Iskur Denim. With this collaboration, both the parties will aim at driving conversations and taking initiatives around creating a sustainable denim ecosystem. Additionally, the partnership will also have both the companies working to increase the use of post-consumer recycled cotton, which is primarily the forte of the Denim Deal.
The Denim Deal is a global public-private partnership that aims to increase the amount of recycled cotton used in denim production. Originally known as the Dutch Denim Deal, the program seeks to promote and normalise the use of post-consumer recycled (PCR) cotton in denim goods. By 2030, the overall objective is to manufacture one billion pairs of jeans using at least 20% PCR cotton.
Denim Deal maintains regional offices around the Indian subcontinent, North America, Latin America, EMEA, and APAC, with brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Vingino, Mud Jeans, Dawn Denim, Garcia, and Urban Outfitters also associated with Denim Deal.
Denim Deal is also partnered with mills around the world including Bossa, Sharabati, Realteks, Kipas, DNM, Maritas, Naveena, and Calik.
Talking about their newest partner, Denim Deal expressed their enthusiasm for their association Turkey-based Iskur Denim, which they mentioned is a vertically-integrated denim manufacturing company known for their commitment towards sustainability. The global platform stated that Iskur Denim has its in-house recycling facility, which manages both its pre and post consumer waste. They also revealed about the Turkish company’s water-conserving dyeing process, which reduces their water usage by up to 95 per cent. As such, Iskur Denim is already committed to producing denim responsibly by incorporating eco-friendly materials such as organic and regenerative cotton and recycled fibres.
Iskur Denim, which was established in 2015, is a significant component of the textile investment made by the ISKUR Group. comprising two ring operations, one Vortex yarn operation, and four open-end yarn operations.
Iskur Denim is a fully integrated factory that uses special finishing machinery to manufacture fabrics and the Iskur Group’s weaving operation to weave indigo-dyed yarns.
Additionally, it makes significant investments in natural energy resources and offers sustainability in both production and production resources. For example, it has solar energy systems that produce 5.64 GWh of power annually and wind energy assets that generate 70 million kWh of electricity.
While this partnership marks at promoting circular economy, Denim Deal has earlier also worked with brands including Kings of Indigo, MUD Jeans, and Kuyichi to generate jeans with recycled textiles.
