
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), the anti-graft watchdog has recently called upon the Bangladesh Government to consider the increased cost of living while reviewing the workers’ minimum wage.
This is as per reports, which further added the anti-graft watchdog also called for pushing the agenda of a living wage while also remove the barriers against exercising workers’ rights of trade union and collective bargaining even as it released a statement to this end recently, in which the TIB underlined that it was in the interest of all stakeholders (brands/buyers, exporters, employees and workers as well as the government) to ensure a safe, workers’ rights-based, and sustainable RMG industry, which adheres to ethical practices and business integrity.
It is time for all stakeholders to work together to achieve this goal, maintained the TIB in its statement even as the anti-graft watchdog noted that significant progress has indeed been made in the readymade garment industry of Bangladesh over the past ten years, especially with reference to structural and fire safety.
