South Korean companies that are operating in Bangladesh, seek to play a bigger role in ensuring Bangladesh’s sustainable economic development apart from good CSR (corporate social responsibility) practices.
According to reports, the representatives of the South Korean entities made this observation while participating in the recent virtual Korea-Bangladesh CSR Conference 2021 titled ‘CSR for Human Resource Development and Economic Growth’, even as the South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Lee Jang-keun on his part underlined that around 200 Korean companies doing business in Bangladesh are contributing to the country’s economic development in various forms, and they are not just making profits from here but also spending money to help the local people improve their lives while adding the main goals of the conference were to invite companies from around the world to join the CSR campaign and put in efforts to become more socially responsible.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of Youngone Corp., Sung Ki-hak underlined how as part of the Korean Export Processing Zone’s (KEPZ) Blue and Green Initiative, around 2.5 million trees have been planted at the economic zone and 25 lakes and other water bodies also developed even as the Chairman went on to mention about the ongoing project to instal a 40 MW rooftop solar power plant, which aims to meet the electricity demand within the KEPZ as well that of the local community.
