As part of its textile extended producer responsibility (EPR) solution, Reconomy UK Ltd., a UK-based provider of speciality recycling and waste management services, is collaborating with Fabacus, a UK-based data technology company, to provide digital product passport (DPP) services to assist producers in adhering to the EU’s growing regulations.
According to Reconomy, the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), which went into force earlier this year, will soon require textile manufacturers in the EU to include DPPs into their operations. According to the business, these passports will be required for a number of product categories, beginning with batteries in February 2027 and moving on to textiles later that year.
Reconomy claims that the ESPR is a crucial component of the EU’s plan to advance a circular economy and improve sustainability throughout the product value chain, especially in industries like textiles that use a lot of resources and have a lot of room to grow.
According to the corporation, important details regarding a product’s life cycle, such as material composition, weights, volumes, manufacturing location, carbon data, ownership, maintenance, care instructions, and paperwork, would be digitally recorded by DPPs. Regardless of where they are made, all products sold within the EU will be subject to this regulation.
Reconomy says producers are urged to take immediate action, piloting solutions to evaluate data preparedness and fix gaps early, even though particular, category-specific standards are still being finalised. The business goes on to say that it has teamed up with Fabacus to provide a solid, data-driven solution that guarantees compliance, permits scalability, and opens up new doors for manufacturers using DPP technology.
According to Reconomy, its product will be a component of its larger end-to-end textile EPR solution, which was introduced in April and will assist producers in comprehending and fulfilling their international legal obligations as well as the deadlines for various EPR schemes. Regulatory monitoring, consulting, data management, environmental compliance, material returns, and end-of-life care are all included in the package.
