
A section of the garment workers who were injured during the infamous Rana Plaza disaster, along with their family members, on the day of Eid, demonstrated in front of Dhaka’s National Shaheed Minar to press home their four-point list of demands, urging the authorities to provide lifetime compensation, rehabilitation and lifetime treatment facilities.
This is as per reports, which underlined, the victims of the building collapse, considered one of the worst industrial disasters that claimed 1,138 lives, mostly apparel workers, besides injuring over 2,000, formed a human chain while also calling upon the Government to ensure exemplary punishment to those responsible for this incident.
For information, an eight-storey building at Savar named Rana Plaza, which housed five garment factories, collapsed on 24th April 2013.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, a survivor of the incident, Shila Begum said they demand lifetime compensation, rehabilitation, lifetime treatment facilities and justice even as she lamented that they are unable to afford to buy a packet of vermicelli and a dress for their children on the auspicious day of Eid.
