At a time when pandemic wiped off not only small businesses, but also large corporations, one saw many start-ups come up with with a vision to solve problems at the micro level.
However, many macro-level problems also grabbed the interest of several business heads. One such start-up brand is Nama:stay – a brand that chooses to solve the issues of Indian Handicrafts.
The brand, which now sells products on an InstaShop, will see its website go live by 15 April (Friday).
Nama:stay is that one missing platform where artisans can now show their exquisite products to the world.
The women-led platform was started with the idea of supporting highly skilled artisans by connecting them with people who value their craft and talent – hence creating a cohesive ecosystem.
A lot of times, artisans are left with a single or few pieces of clothing which they find difficult to sell because of the non-availability of sizes or colour options.
Consequently, the founder started the Instagram page named Nama:stay, where the artisans and their unique pieces got access to the world.
And now with the website going LIVE in a week, there will be more to come.
Palak Chawla, Founder, Nama:stay, says “I have been mulling over it since one of my trips to Kashmir, where my eyes were stuck on the beautiful pieces displayed in the local market, hanging on the walls, each of them telling a story and reciting the tale of the craftsman’s handiwork and endeavour.”
She added “What was saddening was that there wasn’t enough demand for the artful product. Not a platform where the artisan can just sell what they are locally producing and there are no orders that are given to artisans. The same thought process followed when I explored other craft clusters in UP & Uttarakhand.”
Today Nama:Stay is supporting 500+ artisans engaged in various handicrafts across India.
The brand aims to be a global platform for handcrafted and timeless Made in India products. They are currently curating decor and size inclusive apparel.
And these are sustainable too! All their orders are packed in earthy eco-friendly papers with a secondary packaging of a muslin bag.
To create a Nama:Stay experience at their customers home, all products are scented with Indian fragrances so as to create consumer delight.
