Filmmaker Rubaiyat Hossain’s third film Made in Bangladesh, the story of which revolves around a Bangladeshi garment worker, has officially received invitation to compete for the 78th Golden Globe Award.
As per reports, the film will be submitted for the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film category.
According to Rubaiyat, she wanted her third film to specifically focus on working class women – Made in Bangladesh depicts the struggles and successes of female apparel workers and explores how Bangladesh’s RMG sector has the potential to empower women and provide them with socio-economic independence – since garment workers are the most visible in the workforce and yet their stories are rarely portrayed on the big screen.
The filmmaker is hopeful of releasing the film in Bangladesh next year, most probably in April, keeping the first day of Bengali New Year, Pohela Boishakh, into consideration, which is a holiday in the country.
