B-Corp certified lingerie brand Nudea announces plans to become fully circular by 2030 and sets sights on growing within the sleepwear category.
Nudea, which was established in the UK and entered North America in 2019, acknowledges that there are only “limited” possibilities for a second-life for undergarments, but claims it has a “responsibility to lead a change in an industry whose only outlet for disposal is landfill”.
Every purchase from Nudea already comes with a wash bag and comprehensive care instructions. Additionally, with Terracycle’s Zero Waste Box service, customers are able to recycle any bra from any brand. In this manner, 850 bras were recycled between May and December 2022.
The company manufactures 47% of its goods in Portugal, 38% in China, 12% in India, and 3% in Bulgaria. All factories that are B-Corps agree to pay fair wages and maintain safe working conditions by signing a supplier code of conduct.
The company further claims to “at least” visit its Tier 1 & 2 suppliers once every three years to check on their adherence to the code of conduct.
Additionally, Nudea debuted its first line of sleepwear last year. This clothing was manufactured from organic cotton that was grown and certified by the GOTS only in Tamil Nadu, India. The brand has declared intentions to expand in this sector and claims that the launch’s success has made sleepwear a “mainstream” segment for the company.
Nudea’s CEO and founder Priya Downes says, “Earning our B-Corp certified status in February 2022 was a remarkable milestone so early in our journey, affirming our commitment to building a business centred around environmental consciousness and social responsibility.”
