“The Bangladesh Water PaCt”, held on 9th and 10th of June in Dhaka marked the coming together of textile industry professionals and the Spanish sustainable technologies’ world leader Jeanologia at the concourse of a seminar “Alternatives to conventional denim finishing practices”. Unveiled at the event was world’s first ever EIM (Environmental Impact Measuring) software capable of measuring the environmental impact of the textile industry and allowing the industry laundries and garment finishing processes to carry out more sustainable activities. “Using EIM, it is possible to save huge amounts of water, chemicals and energy in addition to respecting the health of employees,” asserted Begoña García, Product Manager, Jeanologia.
Felicitated recently with the WGSN Global Fashion Award for best sustainable design team in the world, the company firmly feels that it is essential for the denim industry to become aware of the importance of protecting the environment.
In an era that is marked with slim margins and to be sustainable is a pressing issue, companies need to be aware of leakages in the value chain that are responsible for lack of sustainability, and EIM allows industry professionals to assess the environmental impact of its activities by calculating the consumption of water, energy, chemical use and the impact of the same on the health of workers. The process therefore helps in recognizing the areas of improvement. “EIM helps brands to work with its production centres, regardless of the country of production, following all the same parameters for creating their collections in a way that respects the environment,” remarked Enrique Silla, President, Jeanologia.
