The Indian Government is planning to establish a new leather fashion training center and design studio in Kanpur’s Leather Cluster, as per reports. The Government initiative is aimed at revitalising the city’s leather industry and creating job opportunities for local youth.
The project, backed by Exim Bank of India, will be implemented under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s District Export Hub Scheme. The design studio will also collaborate with the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Raebareli to offer specialised fashion design courses.
Additionally, the centre will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including 3D scanners and printers.
Kanpur’s Leather Cluster, a significant economic hub, comprises over 2,500 small and medium-sized enterprises. The cluster directly employs approximately 200,000 people and generates annual revenue of around Rs 9,000 crore, primarily through exports.
This Government initiative is expected to further enhance the competitiveness of the Kanpur Leather Cluster and contribute to India’s overall leather exports.
