Taking part in the annual meet of the Partnership for Cleaner Textile (PaCT) 2020 held at a Dhaka hotel, garment manufacturers of Bangladesh called upon the global buyers to offer better prices for apparel items manufactured in the environment-friendly green factories while urging them to consider sustainable manufacturing units as commercial investments so as to ensure their continued sustainability.
“The global apparel buyers do not even pay an extra cent for sourcing products from green garment factories,” lamented Chairman of Viyellatex Group KM Rezaul Hasanat, adding, “I now regret making my factories green.”
Another garment maker, Managing Director of DBL Group, MA Jabbar on his part said that if all initiatives for remodelling factories into green ones were considered commercial, then the move would be sustainable.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group and which played a major role in the formation of PaCT that consists of local apparel makers, buyers and other stakeholders, organised the event.
