Fire broke out in a garment factory of Ludhiana and, consequently, a fireman suffered burns on his face while dousing the flames. One of the factory workers also suffered minor burns.
As per reports, the fire broke out in a boiler installed in the back of the factory. The fire started from the boiler and spread to one section of the factory. Though the workers tried to extinguish the fire, they failed. They then called the fire brigade and fire tenders reached within a few minutes.
As per fire officials, the boiler has capacity of 3,500 litres of oil, and unless the flow of oil stops, fire cannot be brought under control.
The fire was only in one section of the factory, in its boiler. Spark in motor wires triggered the blaze, which was soon caught by oil. The fire officials said that they tried to douse the flames with water, but it spread very fast as a result of which they had to use foam. Three fire tenders were stationed at the spot and five to six tenders were put into service. Rice husk, which was stocked near the boiler, soaked the oil.
Notably, Ludhiana, one of the leading knitted apparel manufacturing hubs, often faces fire incidents in garment factories.
