Crocs, a global footwear brand, is committing to the next step in its sustainability journey with the launch of its “Old Crocs. New Life.” shoe take-back program in the UK. The program was initially launched in the US in early 2024 and improved consumer engagement with them. The program now expands into the UK, Germany, France, Austria and the Netherlands and is part of Crocs’ new approach to circular production and consumption.
All Crocs retail and outlet sites in these European countries will have dedicated collection boxes available to customers, to return their pre-loved Crocs, regardless of the internal/external condition. In addition, participants may use a one-time 15% off discount using the returned Crocs code on an in-store purchase that encourages more sustainable shopping habits.
The returned footwear will be recycled with Dutch recycling partner FastFeet Grinded. Materials from plastic shoes are already being used to develop Crocs first recycled product called the Keep it Going Recycled Classic Clog, which is made from 25% post-consumer recycled content.
This is part of the larger global sustainability strategy Crocs outlines to reduce carbon emissions and use more environmentally friendly materials. These circular economy initiatives lay the background for Crocs plans to open a new store this year at London Designer Outlet in Wembley. The new store is also indicative of Crocs’ retail growth, alongside their continuing commitment to sustainability.
As consumers across the world demand more sustainable and ethical fashion, Crocs is well on their way to become a strategic leader in the footwear business by also providing a bit more affordability, innovation and sustainability. Crocs growth across countless European markets demonstrates the various ways fashion can engage circular economy at scale.
